Crash

Image
This is a short personal story that I wrote for a writing class in spring 2024.    Photo obtained Via Vector Stock Photos I never really thought about death. My life had gone through many stages but no one I ever knew well really died or went through a harrowing experience as far as I knew. Death was something we would talk about, but only in conversations about the future. I never thought about what it would be like to experience a loved one almost dying.  The drive to the hospital was one of the most harrowing of my life. It did not occur to me the ironic nature of me driving at high speeds to get to the hospital but it did not matter. The police were not specific about the nature of the crash but if I went to the hospital I knew I would be able to see the result.  It was late and the ER was quiet except for an older couple sitting in the corner. I walked past them and made my way past a secure door where I found the person I was looking for.  My sister was on...

He introduced the new iPhone model and then passed it over to Apple's VP of Worldwide Product Marketing at Apple Kaiann Drance who introduced the product's design and new innovations. While the iPhone 15 had incremental improvements to most of its design, Drance put extra attention on the new model's use of recycled materials within the phone.  “The enclosure uses 75% recycled aluminum.    10/30/23-    At 6 p.m. in Plano Texas, on most Fridays, a special event happens. Gamers across Texas come to a small games shop off of Custer Road to show off their skills in their favorite fighting game.      Through views of Retro video games, action figures, and vinyl in the store's collection, you eventually see rows of chairs across from tables with Playstation consoles on them.  You can also start to see the vibrant and thriving community of gamers many of whom were dressed up in costumes from their favorite games.       In one corner a cyborg ninja from Nether Realm Entertainments Mortal Kombat, In another corner the two people running the event are both dressed up as different characters from SNK Co.’s King of Fighters series.  The event was known as Suplex, a Fighting Video game tournament that's held every Friday inside Plano Texas’s Fx Games Shop on Custer Road and run by the shop's own production company Tou...

UNT Student Health and Wellness Center comments on use of Docycyline Guidelines released by the CDC

11/15 UNT Campus, Denton-  As new guidelines surrounding the use of a commonly used drug to prevent STIs were released by the CDC, The UNT Student Health and Wellness Center has commented on the use of the drug within their premises. “The guidelines referred to above are draft guidelines and not recommendations that have been fully adopted yet.” A representative from the UNT Student Health and Wellness Center told me “The CDC is collecting public input and comments on these proposed new guidelines through November 16, 2023. Given that this is something that is still being actively investigated, the SHWC is not offering this service at this time but may consider doing so in the future after more definitive evidence is presented.” The UNT Student Health and Wellness Center often analyzes new guidelines as they come out from the CDC and tries to follow what local health officials recommend doing.  “As more information becomes available about the use of doxycycline for pr...

A Gamers Paradise on the Denton Square

On a quiet Wednesday in Denton, Texas, many people are going toward a large sign that advertises Denton’s resident bar arcade, Free Play. Families, couples, arcade enthusiasts and competitors fill the bar arcade as many enjoy the thrills of unlimited arcade games that Free Play Denton possesses.  Bartenders, managers, and cooks serve guests while many sit down and enjoy the atmosphere in the unique bar arcade. Cabinet technicians roam around making sure that the games are all in working order. In a corner of the downstairs arcade, many gather to talk, eat, drink, and play to their heart's content in a place many consider to be a Paradise for video gamers off of the Denton courthouse square. Free Play Denton’s location on the courthouse square is the second in Denton after the first closed on Hickory Street back in 2020. Freeplay Denton is one of the many locations for the bar arcade after the first location in Richardson opened in 2015. Since then Freeplay has brought a uniq...
